George Engelmann Papers, 1831-1914 / Correspondence (Collection 1 RG 4/1/5/1), Missouri Botanical Garden Archives

Incoming correspondence to George Engelmann from John Torrey, for 1844-1873. The correspondence relates to botany, botanical expeditions and Torrey's personal herbarium. Letters discuss the Emory expedition in New Mexico, Parry's travels and collection trips to the American West, and Newberry's work on the Colorado Exploring Expedition. Also included are descriptions of various plants, including many Cactaceae and Yucca species
